Flower Streets in Downtown Sarasota
The Flower Streets, Sarasota's Flowering Community
Sarasota’s colorful and historic Flower Streets are located just south of the city’s downtown and immediately west of the legendary Tamiami Trail. As you might guess, the Flower Streets derive their renown from the names of the streets across this charming community: Hibiscus, Rose, Magnolia, Bougainvillea, Tulip, Orchid, and a few more. You get the idea. It’s an older Sarasota community, sometimes also known as the Hillview District, where durable and attractive single-family homes have been built in several styles over the years. Colonial, Mediterranean, and Florida-ranch styles are all represented on the Flower Streets. Splendidly towering palms, majestic ancient oaks, and hanging Spanish moss line many of the Flower Streets and provide much of their enchantment; the natural Florida setting is complemented by mature, overgrown Florida foliage that provides the Flower Streets with a venerable and distinguished sensibility.
Today a diverse population lives on the Flower Streets. Many of the community’s residents work in health care at or around Sarasota Memorial Hospital, which is within walking distance. Sarasota Memorial provides superlative healthcare and hundreds of jobs to the Sarasota community. Families appreciate the Flower Streets, too; Sarasota High School is in walking distance, and Southside Elementary is nearby. The Flower Streets are the community that combines ultra-elegant living with all the benefits and amenities offered by a booming urban center like Sarasota; the Flower Streets are adjacent to the Tamiami Trail, and they’re only 5 minutes from downtown and from Sarasota’s scenic waterfront. Residents particularly enjoy the Sarasota Farmers Market, a weekly downtown event every Saturday. The Flower Streets are also conducive to the relaxed, outdoors-loving lifestyle that so many Sarasotans so immensely enjoy. It’s only 5 to 10 minutes from the Flower Streets to the always-popular Gulf of Mexico and 35 miles of white-sand Sarasota beaches and surf including sunny Siesta Beach on Siesta Key, “America’s Best Beach” in 2011.

Yet more than 200 city, county, state, and private parks and preserves are also spread throughout the Sarasota-Bradenton area, along with more than a dozen of the most acclaimed and prestigious country clubs and challenging golf courses anywhere. Sarasota’s climate is superb, and the average annual temperature is 73 degrees, so whether your passion is the beaches, boating or fishing, the fairways, tennis, or the many nearby shopping malls, in Sarasota you’re able to pursue that passion alongside your neighbors almost every day. And the Flower Streets are only one of several charming neighborhoods where the tranquil, tree-lined residential streets and lavish luxury homes provide quick and easy access to all the amenities and benefits of contemporary Sarasota living.
